Am 15.10.2015 veröffentlichte die Europäische Kommission für maritime Angelegenheiten die Infografik "Europa und internationale Meeres-Verwaltung", um die Abhängigkeit von dem Element Wasser in Form von Ozeanen und Meeren in den vielfältigen Sektoren wie Handel, Energie, Nahrung, ...

 

...  Telekommunikation, Tourismus bis hin zur überregionalen Zusammenarbeit für nachhaltige und ökologisch bewußte Wirtschaftlichkeit zu verdeutlichen.

  • Europa verfügt über die größten, zusammengeschlossenen Wirtschaftszonen-/verbünde (Exclusive Economic Zone - EEZ) weltweit mit rund 20 Mio. Quadratkilometern [km²]
  • 90% des internationalen und 40% des internen EU Handels sind maritim!
  • 350 Mio. Euro pro Jahr fließen aus europäischen Investment Fonds in maritime Forschung und Weiterentwicklungen.
  • Die maritime Wirtschaft steuert damit rund 4 Mio. Arbeitsplätze und rund 500 Mrd. Euro pro Jahr zur europäischen Wirtschaftsleistung bei und ist somit ein strategisches Handlungsfeld für großes und nachhaltiges Wachstum.

On Octobre, the 15th the European Commission for Maritime Affairs published a new infographic "The EU and international ocean governance" as a part and marking point of the end of the Commission's international public consultation on how the EU could contribute to achieving better international governance of oceans and seas to the benefit of sustainable blue growth.

The infographic emphasises how the "EU depends on clean, safe and secure oceans, relying on the seas for trade, energy, seafood, telecommunications, tourism and territorial cohesion".

  • 20m km² is the total area of the combined Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the EU Member States
  • marine territory is around 380% larger than its land counterpart, and is the world’s largest
  • 90% of international and 40% of internal EU trade is maritime!
  • €350m/y of EU investment funds dedicated to marine and maritime research.
  • The maritime economy contributes up to 4m jobs and €500 bn/y to the EU economy, a strategic area with scope for large and sustainable growth.

This video is a product of the EU Horizon 2020 funded Sea Change project (www.seachangeproject.eu).

Many European citizens are not aware of how our day-to-day actions can have a cumulative effect on the health of the ocean and seas – a necessary resource that must be protected for all life on the planet Earth to exist. In other words, many of us lack a sense of “Ocean Literacy”. By introducing this idea, the video highlights the importance of protecting the ocean by making choices that are more “ocean-friendly”. The video also provides an introduction to the Sea Change project, which aims which aims to address the challenge of raising European citizens’ awareness of the intrinsic links between the ocean and human health.

This video was developed by a team from European Marine Board and CoExploration Limited and was produced by Marker Wizards Ltd.
